This tutorial shows how to use a MIDI device as a Tagtool controller. Your MIDI device should have 5 or 6 sliders or rotary knobs and a pushbutton in order to work as a Tagtool. Here's how to set up your MIDI device:
In the latest release Nodekit 0.7.6.1, the MIDI patch, which has the TagtoolControls node replaced by MIDI nodes, is already included. It is located in My Documents\Nodekit\patches - you can open it by selecting it in the File→Open window.
In the Nodekit, go to Window→MIDI Settings. Under “Input Devices”, select your MIDI device on any port you would like. In this example we set up the device for Port 1.
Start with the button - this is handled by the MIDI note node at the bottom of the MIDI nodes (see image below). Press the button on your MIDI device that you would like for releasing drawings. Have a look at the values for Port, Channel and Note on the right side of the respective MIDI control node. Enter these values in the left side of the node.
Now repeat the same principle for all six (or five) sliders or rotary knobs, which are represented by the MIDI control nodes above.
Repeat the following procedure for each MIDI control node:
Move a slider, and look at the resulting values for Port, Channel and Control on the right side of the node. Enter these values on the left side of the node. Test if the values still change when you move the slider (they should). Now move on to the next slider, and next node. Then move on to the next MIDI control node and the next slider.
When you're done with that, your Tagtool setup should be ready - enjoy!
